Groundsman Training
Tuition assistance and job placement services available to qualified students.
A groundsman performs a variety of work tasks in the construction, maintenance, and repair of electrical distribution and transmission lines and equipment. This training program will consist of 128 instructional hours: 8 hours a day, 4 days a week for 4 weeks beginning in Lebanon, Virginia. At the completion of the training students will be eligible to sit for placement exams for qualification into job placement assistance. Groundsman training is the first step towards a career as a Linesman.

- Knot Tying
- Basic Work Zone
- Grounding Equipment
- Transformers
- Materials & Tools
- Flagging Course
- Installing Sleeves
- CDL Class B Learner’s Permit Review
- CPR/ First Aid
- 10 hour OSHA Class
Each class begins at 8 a.m. and ends at 5 p.m. The program begins April 9 at the Southwest Virginia Technology Development Center, 141 Highland Drive, Lebanon, Virginia. Tuition will be $4,000 per participant.
Seats in the class are limited and the deadline for enrollment is March 8.
This class is offered in partnership with TCR Management, Southwest Virginia Community College, and the University of Virginia's College at Wise Office of Economic Development.
