The Effective Supervisor Program Begins March 15 in Abingdon
January 18, 2012
The Effective Supervisor Program is set to begin on March 15 at the Southwest Virginia Higher Education Center in Abingdon, VA. Developed by The University of Virginia’s College at Wise Office of Economic Development, this comprehensive entry-level leadership training program is designed to build the confidence of those that have been newly promoted or hope to be promoted into front-line supervisory roles. The Effective Supervisor Program isn’t just for newly promoted supervisors though, even experienced supervisors or team leads have benefited from the program.
Achieving results through others is the hallmark of an effective supervisor, and this certification program provides a supervisor with insights into their own personal leadership, their impact on employee motivation and performance, and their team’s ability to implement company or organizational strategies.
Each highly interactive session gives individuals the opportunity to participate at both the individual and group level through exercises and case studies. In addition to the competency-based and skill-building sessions, participants will be provided leadership reading assignments and will be introduced to an experienced mentor who will support him or her throughout the program.
“The Effective Supervisor Program has been very beneficial for our supervisors,” said Tara Justus, A.V.P. & Training Officer for TruPoint Bank. “Upon completing the program, they have returned to the bank with a renewed level of self-confidence and a heightened sense of responsibility to lead by example. The program also reinforces the necessity of continuously developing and motivating staff members in order to meet organizational goals. I would recommend this program to any industry for both new and seasoned supervisors.”
The program meets every other week for five sessions from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. The spring 2012 meeting dates are Mar. 15 and 29, Apr. 12 and 26, and May. 10. A supervisory management certificate is awarded for the completion of the program. No more than one absence is permitted to earn the certificate.
Pre-registration is required and seating is limited. The tuition for the program is $1,275 which includes materials, lunch, and refreshments. For more information about the program, contact UVa-Wise at 276.889.8180 or go to www.svtdc.org.
