UVa-Wise to offer Project Management Professionals (PMP) Certification Prep

UVa-Wise to offer Project Management Professionals (PMP) certification prep in Abingdon this March

The University of Virginia’s College at Wise will offer a comprehensive preparation class for the Project Management Professionals (PMP) Certification Exam at the Southwest Virginia Higher Education Center in Abingdon this March.

The series of classes, taught by project management expert David Williamson, costs $1,399, which includes textbooks, lunch, refreshments and course materials. Classes are set for March 9, 10, 16, 17 and 18 at the Southwest Virginia Higher Education Center in Abingdon. Each class begins at 8:30 a.m. and ends at 5 p.m.

PMP certification is the profession’s most globally recognized and respected certification credential. The PMP designation informs current and potential employers that those certified have a solid foundation of project management knowledge that can be readily applied in the workplace. Project management skills are at the top of the demand skill set for 2010, and the PMP certified designation is highly desirable in today’s competitive workforce.

The courses will familiarize students with the principles and practices of project management, as defined by the Project Management Institute, the accreditation body for project management. It will also fulfill the requirement for 35 contact hours of project management education. Additionally, this class will cover the prerequisites needed for certification as well as how to register for the PMP exam.

David J. Williamson, MBA, PMP, MCTS, is a recognized expert in the management and delivery of project-based work. He is a frequent speaker on the topic and has taught project management at the college level for 10 years. He was the founding president of the Project Management Institute’s Southwest Virginia chapter. His professional experience includes more than 25 years as a business analyst, software developer, project and program manager, program office director, consultant and trainer in a wide variety of organizations and industries, including technology, retail, health care, financial services, construction, education, non-profits and all levels of government.
